About the Port City Blues Society
The Port City Blues Society is a non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status operating exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. Port City Blues Society’s mission is to educate the public and perpetuate the Delta Blues art form on a local and regional level. Pine Bluff and Jefferson County, Arkansas have a rich Delta Blues heritage. It is a story that needs to be preserved and kept alive for future generations. We believe that this heritage can play a significant role in the revitalization efforts that are currently underway in Pine Bluff.
The Port City Blues Society hosts a weekly blues jam in historic downtown Pine Bluff each and every Wednesday evening. The purpose of the weekly blues jam is to provide regional Blues artists a venue in which to perform the art form for the general public and fellow musicians. It is a relaxed atmosphere in which every attending musician gets to participate. The free open blues jam is held at Hot Rods located at Second & Main and begins at 8 pm.
Also, the Port City Blues Society is endeavoring to offer free clinics, workshops and performances in public venues and schools, as well as utilize its social media channels and website to display the Delta Blues art form. If you know of events and efforts where we may be of benefit, please feel free to contact us.
The Society is governed by a Board of Directors and is assisted by a Steering Committee consisting of local leaders, blues enthusiasts, and musicians who provide resources and suggestions to the Board of Directors. We are always open to involving additional like-minded individuals in our mission.
We would love to have you as a supporting member and a part of our effort! It should go without saying, but you do not have to be a musician to join. We encourage any interested persons to participate. You also do not have to be a local resident. We have a number of members from various parts of the state that have joined our effort.
